American Airlines 787 Routes and Interior

April 30 Update:

Today American Airlines announced another route that their new Dreamliners will fly. Staring August 18, 2015 they will fly on the ORD-NRT route (Chicago to Tokyo). This is also the first international route from Chicago that AA 787s will fly on. Booking starts on May 5.

April 7 Update:

Since the original post below, American Airlines has announced a new route for its new acquired Dreamliners. Starting June 26, AA will operate their Dreamliner on the route from Dallas to Shanghai (DFW-PVG). This is yet another route that will be introduced in June, when services to Beijing and Buenos Aires (read original post) will also commence.

As a reminder, AA will start commercial services of their 787 on May 7 on flights from Dallas to Chicago.

Original Post (Feb. 11):

American Airlines has officially announced the starting routes for their newly acquired Dreamliner and revealed the interior design.

Starting on May 7, AA will fly their Dreamliner between its two hubs, Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Chicago (ORD). This domestic route is meant to get familiar with operating the aircraft.

On June 2 AA will start international flights with daily nonstop flights from DFW to Beijing (PEK). The actual DFW-PEK route will start on May 7th and will be operated by a 777-200 until the June 2nd switch to the 787.

On June 4, American’s DFW to Buenos Aires (EZE) flight, currently operated by a 777-200, will also switch over to a nonstop 787 flight.

American has also unveiled the interior details of their 787, which will have a total of  226 seats:

Business Class:

  • Seat that transforms into a fully lie-flat 77 in. bed
  • Aisle access for all passengers
  • Universal power ports at each seat
  • International Wi-Fi connection
  • 16 in touchscreen monitor with up to 250 movies, over 180 TV programs, and over 350 audio selections
  • Bose® QuietComfort® Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headsets for inflight use
  • Walk-up bar with snacks and refreshments
  • 28 sets in a 1-2-1 configuration

Main Cabin:

  • Special Main Cabin Extra section that offers up to 5 extra inches of leg room
  • Universal power ports at each seat
  • Personal IFE with up to 250 movies, over 180 TV programs, and over 350 audio selections
  • International Wi-Fi connection
  • 48 seats in the Main Cabin Extra in a 3-3-3 configuration
  • 150 in regular economy/coach with a 3-3-3 configuration
