Apple September 7, 2016 Special Event Recap

Today was the long awaited Apple September 2016 event. Many updates and new releases were announced. The final updates to iOS10 and WatchOS3 were shown off and they will be out for the public on September 13. The two big releases were the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2. The iPhone 7 headlines with IP67 water resistance, dual cameras on the 7 Plus, and a new home button.

General Updates

  • Apple Music
    • Apple Music now has 17 million subscribers
    • Apple Music now gets many new releases first
  • App Store
    • App Store now has 140 Billion total downloads
    • iPhone/iPad are now the most popular gaming devices
    • 500,000 games in the App Store
  • Nintendo Mario is coming to the App Store
    • The game is called Super Mario Run
    • Game is controlled with different lengths of taps for jumping
    • First “One Handed Mario Game”
    • Compete with friends
    • There will be one set price (no in app purchases)
    • Coming later this year

    • Apple is strong supporter of ConnectED to get schools technology
    • Apple is supporting 114 ConnectED schools this school year
    • iPads being donated to more than 50,000 students
