The Farnborough 2016 airshow is here. The airshow revolves mainly on being a trade show where companies to do with aviation come to see what is new and place orders. There are over a 1,000 exhibitors present at the event. The trade show part runs thru Friday the 15th and then the airport opens to the public for the weekend (16th and 17th July). In addition there is a flying display each day throughout the week.
Below are summaries of each of the days so far during the show with the aircraft orders announced at the bottom of the page.
Monday July 11 – Opening Day
The day began with a flight of the Red Arrows team over Farnborough Airport in the UK. Throughout the day, there were announcements about about orders for aircraft and other services (major ones listed below).
Boeing and Embraer signed a deal to collaborate on the the KC-390 Airlift. Embraer will manufacture the aircraft while Boeing will be in charge of in-service support.
The flying display started and some aircraft, including some Airbus models, took to the sky. Unfortunately, a strong downpour brought everything to a stop. The flying displays for the rest of the day were cancelled (including the Boeing displays) and the show closed early for day 1.

Tuesday July 12
The second day of the show brought good news, the weather held for a full day of events. This included more announcements and a full flying display.
Airbus made some service announcements. First, Air France would be installing Airbus’ Runway Overrun Prevention System (ROPS) and AutoPilot/ Flight Director TCAS on its A320 and A330 Family aircraft. In addition Airbus and Rolls-Royce will deliver integrated parts availability service for Cathay Pacific Airways’ A350 XWBs.
On the Boeing side, it was announced that Qatar Airways would launch the new 777 Performance Improvement Package which allows existing aircraft to be retrofitted with improvements.
The flying display included the first official Boeing performances and a demonstration of the stunning F-35B Lightning II fighter.

Wednesday July 13
The third day of the show brought hope that the weather would hold up, but that didn’t totally work. The flying displays were put on a 15-20 min hold due to thunderstorms, but then continued on with amazing flying.
As always, announcements for orders were made by the aircraft manufactures (listed at bottom of article). Airbus showed off some cool technology by inspecting their aircraft using a drone. Meanwhile, Boeing signed Data Analytics Agreements with six airlines to help them bring costs down.
Thursday July 14
The fourth day of the show brought the two big manufactures celebrating the billion dollars worth of aircraft they won orders for at Farnborough. The show was successful for both Airbus ($35 billion) and Boeing ($26.8 billion). The table at the bottom of the article breaks down the orders.
The flying display was also great as usual and there were no weather delays this time to slow the action down. The biggest displays will be Saturday and Sunday for the public show days.
Friday July 15
Day 5 brought the longest scheduled airshow to date so far, including some aerobatic acts to go with the lager jets and military performances. Sadly, about 3/4 of the way thru the display, the rest of the flying was cancelled due to poor weather. Hoping for better weather on the public weekend.
Additionally, today is Boeing’s 100th birthday. They celebrated all week at the show with a special pavilion.

Saturday July 16
Saturday brought the first day of the public weekend at Farnborough. Anyone could buy a ticket and explore aircraft and some booths on the ground. There was also a massive airshow lasting just over 5 hours. The weekend shows don’t only feature commercial/military aircraft but many aerobatic acts as well. Luckily, unlike some previous days, the weather held up for the entire display.
