At approximately 11 am, on March 5, a Delta aircraft overran runway 13 at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The Delta aircraft was arriving from Atlanta after a 2 hour flight. The conditions were snowy and freezing fog was reported. After briefly circling New York City due to snow delays at the airport, the MD-88 prepared to land.
The plane touched down, but passengers reported that the wheels had almost no traction. The plane kept on sliding forward until it veered left and miraculously stopped at a small embankment. Any further and the plane could have ended up in the water. The plane’s nose was already over the icy waters of Flushing Bay. The passengers then evacuated and boarded buses that took them to LaGuardia’s Delta terminal.
Few minor injuries were reported, but 3 were taken to the hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries.
Four minutes after the plane landed, all of LaGuardia airport shut down to air traffic. One runway reopened at 2 p.m. ET, while the other remained closed
The New York Fire Department tweeted out:

All in all it was just one troublesome day of delays all over the country because of the winter conditions.
