Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. S6 Edge

On April 1st, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge at a press conference at Mobile World Congress, later released the phone on April 10th in 20 countries. The phone brings a variety of improvements, as well as new features. Some of these features include a screen which curves over the edge, making the S6 Edge one of the first of its kind to include a display on multiple sides of the device. We’ve decided to take a look at the two phones and see if it’s worth getting the S6, and if so, which one.

Height, Width, Thickness: The standard edition of the S6 is larger in all aspects, but in a non-noticeable amount. It’s noticeably thinner, though, than the previous versions in the Galaxy S series. The screen is larger than the iPhone 6’s (non-plus) providing more ease for users with vision issues or simply preferring a larger screen.

Weight: The two versions of the S6 differ by a small 6 grams, the Edge weighing 132 grams, still negatively comparing to the iPhone 6 at 129 g., which really isn’t a very noticeable difference.

Operating System: The stock ROM/OS on both S6 phones is Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop, which appears to work well with the Edge’s curved screen and functioning properly with the standard version as well.

CPU & GPU: The S4 has been compared to the iPhone 6 & 5 in a negative way regarding the graphic performance, yet works phenomenal with the majority of games, and should rarely crash with apps that require high performance.

Memory: At 3 gigabytes, the memory of both S6 phones is sufficient for most uses by users of levels ranging from kids to professional technicians. Compare this to the iPhone with ~1 gigabyte.

Storage: As most phones, the S6 provides a standard variety of storage options, which isn’t anything new compared to other phones in the industry. It’s usually sufficient for basic uses.

Battery: With 2600 mAh and 2550 mAh batteries, both phones tend to provide a decent battery life, ~7 hours average for average use, which critics say is worse than the s5’s battery life.

Screen: Both phones have a Quad HD Gorilla Glass display, which makes it hard to break and gives it a beautiful, high-quality display.

Cameras: With a 16 MP back camera, this device can film at 30fps in 2K quality, and at 60fps at 1080p, which is simply amazing for such a small camera. The front camera films at 1080p 30fps, which isn’t bad either.

From what I see, the S6 does have some pros and cons, which balance each other out. If you like to the newest innovations in technology, why not try out the S6 Edge? Looking for the performance? Take a look at the standard S6 edition. The only real difference is the screen shape; other than that the 2 phones are basically the same, yet differently priced.
