Singapore Airlines to Resume Direct Flights to US

Singapore Airlines and Airbus have announced that the world’s longest flight will be given a new chance. The Singapore to New York flight, flown on a340-500s, was retried in 2013. When they bring the flight back, it will be flown on an a350-900ULR. This new ultra-long range version of the Airbus a350 aircraft will enable it to fly up to 8,300 nautical miles. As stated by Airbus in a press release, this version:

will include a modified fuel system to increase the fuel carrying capacity, an increase in Maximum Take-Off Weight, plus aerodynamic improvements(…)

In addition to the New York flight, Singapore Airlines will also resume their flight to Los Angeles. Both these routes are set to be re-launched in 2018.

Singapore Airlines already had 63 a350-900 on order and they will replace 7 of them with the ultra-long range version. In addition, they added 4 more standard a350 aircraft, bringing their firm orders for the a350 XWB Family to 67.

The cabin will be fitted with a new design and cabin-products which are currently under development.
