Sling TV

The CES show, or the Consumer Electronic Show, is an annual international trade show for major companies and industry professionals in the field of technology. Several new and old services we’re all familiar with, like Dish, Sony, Microsoft and many other technological giants gather at the Las Vegas Convention Center in January to introduce & announce new services and inventions (to name a few previous ones: X-Box, Ultrabooks, Blu-Ray, the VCR, and many more.) Today, Jan. 5th is the date Dish showed off its new product called “Sling TV”. Sling TV is an internet-based TV service from Dish that brings several channels, including ESPN, TNT, TBS, CNN, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, HGTV and many others, live to consumers’ homes for only $20/month. One feature of Sling TV that stands out to customers is that there are no contracts – you may opt in & opt out of the service at any time. Now Sling TV does not require a DVR, or a specific “Sling TV” box. The service is comparable to Netflix. You can watch it on your Roku, stream it from your phone, laptop, TV and even gaming console, resulting in the service to literally be available anywhere with a good connection and a device with access to one. Due to “group paying” and sharing accounts, Dish is considering to set a single-stream limit on users accounts, which makes you consider: is this service worth paying for over Netflix and Hulu? We hope to see Sling TV grow and develop in 2015 and grow with more channels included with the package. Perhaps, one day we’ll get HBO and Showtime on there the same price.
