United is adding 1,600 more premium seating to its aircraft, becoming the U.S. carrier with the highest proportion of premium seats. The airline will be increasing the amount of its business class offering United Polaris^® as well as United First^® seats to around 250 aircraft in its fleet. Riding on the premium trend, United is also adding the CRJ550 to its fleet, featuring a three-class layout on a 50-seat regional jet.

On the 21 reconfigured Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, United is introducing 16 additional Polaris seats, bringing the total up to 46 as well as 22 new Premium^® seats. The remaining cabin features 47 Economy Plus^® seats and 52 Economy seats. The new cabin arrangement will make United have the highest density of premium seating among any U.S. carrier. Aircraft are being delivered from February 2019 to late 2020. The Boeing 767-300ER will primarily serve Newark/New York and London.

United is also re-configuring their Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. Starting in the fall of 2019, an additional 4 United First seats are being added to Airbus A319s, bringing the total first class seats up to 12. The rest of the cabin will feature 39 Economy Plus and 78 Economy seats. As for the A320 beginning next year, United First seats are going from 12 up to 16 seats with the remaining space being utilized for 39 Economy Plus and 95 Economy seats. United’s reconfiguration of the A319 and A320 aircraft is expected to be complete next year.

United will also be adding the CRJ550 to its fleet, becoming the launch customer for the new Bombardier aircraft. Based on the CRJ700, the aircraft will bring even more space to the 50-seat regional aircraft market and offer a three-class cabin.
