Air Frane flew the first commercial Airbus A380 fight to RIOgaleão – Tom Jobim International Airport. It was a one-off flight from Paris to Rio and back. The flight was flown for the special occasion of the conclusion of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games.
The A380 was welcomed with a water salute when it arrived on August 22nd:
RIOgaleão offers three A380 parking stands and joins a list of 23o A380 compatible airports around the world. This is now the fourth airport in Latin America with A380 capability. The other three are Benito Juarez Mexico City Airport, Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport and Cancun International Airport. There are currently no regular A380 flights to Rio, but the airport is now ready if airlines decided to bring A380s there.
