The newest commercial plane announced is the Boeing 777x. It will be the latest version of the very successful 777 line. Boeing describes that the 777x is:
“The largest and most efficient twin-engine jet in the world. Its folding raked wingtip and optimized span deliver greater efficiency, significant fuel savings and complete airport gate compatibility. And its GE9X engine is the most advanced, fuel-efficient commercial engine ever.”
As with the current 777s the new jetliner will be built in Boeing’s Everett, Washington plant. Recently an addition to plant has begun construction and will become the assembly plant for the 777x’s new composite wing. One of the coolest innovations is a 7 meter folding wingtip in order to fit into more airports on the ground and to maximize fuel efficiency in the air.
Even at such an early date a record breaking number of orders has been received, already 286. Production is set to begin in 2017 with deliveries starting in 2020.
