Final Assembly for First Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner Begins

In North Charleston, South Carolina, final assembly of the first Boeing 787-10 is beginning. The program is currently on time, a massive relief compared to when the first original Boeing 787 was produced.

As the aircraft cycles around the final assembly factory, all final sections come together as well as outfitting the aircraft’s interior and exterior before the aircraft is first powered on and production tests begin.

The first flight for the 787-10 is aimed for 2017; deliveries to customers are expected in 2018. There are currently 154 order for the 787-10.

As the third member of the super-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner family, the aircraft is a stretched version of the 787-9, increasing seat and cargo capacity even more. With this increase in possible revenue and the same fuel efficiency, Boeing has established a high standard for fuel efficiency and operations costs at 25% better fuel efficiency than the aircraft it is aiming to replace.
