Today, Boeing and Malaysia Airlines announced an order for 25 737 MAX 8 airplanes. Previously attributed to an unidentified customer, the purchase is valued at $2.75 billion dollars at current list prices.
Malaysia Airlines CEO Peter Bellew states that the aircraft “is a game-changer for Malaysia Airlines with much lower costs and greater efficiency which we will pass on to our loyal customers with lower fares.”
Currently, Malaysia Airlines operates 56 Boeing 737-800s, and took delivery of its 100th 737 back in December 2014.
The Boeing 737 MAX is advertised to use 20% less fuel than the current latest Boeing 737 Next-Generations as well as an 8% less operating cost per seat than the closest competitor. The aircraft uses the CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets, and many other advances in technology to deliver high efficiency and reliability for customers and greater passenger comfort.
