EAA AirVenture 2016 Days 1-7

The Worlds Greatest Aviation Celebration, EAA AirVenture, is here! The annual week-long event brings together 10,000 airplanes and hundreds of thousands of aviation enthusiast down to Wittman Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Monday July 25 – Opening Day

The opening day of AirVenture 2016 signifies the start of a week filed with nonstop aviation. The general aviation parking and camping was already full from earlier arrivals over the weekend. The first airshow of the week saw the arrival of many warbirds both new and old.

In addition, Cessna unveiled a new airplane design, the Cessna Denali. It is a single turoprop engine that can seat 8-11.

Tuesday July 26

The second day of the show saw some bigger airplanes arrive to the Boeing Centennial Plaza. Airbus brought over the first A321 built in their new USA factory in Alabama. A huge C-5 Galaxy military transporter also arrived, a huge contrast to the small general aviation aircraft around it. In the evening, a FedEx Boeing 767 Freighter also arrived to be displayed.

The airshow featured the hour long Warbirds of America showcase, in addition to the many aerobatic acts such as the one by Sean D. Tucker.

Wednesday July 27

The third day of the show was mainly about WomenVenture. The day focused on getting women into aviation, especially the younger generation. The days events featured workshops, meetings, and a large group photo.

Alaskan Airlines brought over its #Boeing100 737 for the day, flown by in by all female crew. In addition, the Canadian Snowbirds finally arrived before their performances Friday thru Sunday.

The evening brought the first out of two night airshows this week. The night shows always dazzle the crowds with airplanes lighting up the sky. The nigh air show was ended with fireworks and the Great Wall of Fire.

Thursday July 28

Day 4 got of to a rainy start, but the afternoon airshow was still able to be completed to its entirety.

A special event was the 2 millionth Young Eagle flight. The Young Eagle program was created by EAA to give free first flights to kids to introduce them to aviation. Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, a former Young Eagle chairman, flew the lucky 2 millionth young eagle before the airshow began.

Friday July 29

Day 5 was all about our Veterans. In the morning, an American Airlines plane took veterans to DC for a day to visit the memorials. They had  There was also a Veteran Parade from Warbird Alley to Boeing Plaza.

The afternoon airshow was the first time the Canadian Snow birds perfumed #OSH16 in 33 years. They will also perform Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday July 3o

The 6th day of the show had some special attractions. Cathay Pacific brought over one of their Boeing 747-8 Freighters and had it parked for all to see throughout the day on Boeing Plaza. Saturday was also the day that the second night air show of the week occurred with stunning flying displays, fireworks, and the Wall of Fire.

The morning saw a Runway 5K and a hot-air balloon launch.

Sunday July 31 – Closing Day

The last day of EAA AirVenture had a fully packed airshow lineup and many planes leaving. The afternoon airshow concluded with a stunning perforce by the the Canadian Snowbirds. The day also included the raffle drawing for a Ford Mustang. The last day always signifies the end of an amazing aviation filled week and starts the countdown for next year (July 24-30 2017).
