Original Post:

We are now less than a month away from the annual EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin! Every year, hundreds of thousands of people descend upon Wittman Regional Airport to celebrate all things aviation. This year the show is from July 25-31.

Visitors can drive in for a day, camp at the campgrounds, or fly in on their own aircraft. Some of the many things visitors can experience are all the different types of aircraft on display, booths displaying/selling basically anything to do with aviation, and of course the daily air shows. Below there is more detailed information on the event and be sure to checkout our article and video from AirVenture 2015: A Day at EAA Oshkosh AirVenture 2015.

Aircraft Display Areas

There are 4 main aircrft exibition areas on the grounds: ultralight, vintage, homebuilt, and warbirds. A quick shuttle bus ride also takes you to Lake Winnebago where many seaplanes are docked. In the middle of all the action, Boeing Plaza features displays of special/featured aircraft.

Boeing Plaza is really the center of the action at AirVenture. Past aircraft on Boeing, formerly Philips 66, Plaza were the Airbus a350, F-22, F-35, and the B-52 bomber. Aircraft to be on display this year are an Alaskan 737 and FedEx 767 on Wednesday the 27th and a Cathy Pacific 747-8F on Saturday the 30th. This is also where the stage is for concerts during the evening. One of the bands performing this year is the Third Eye Blind.

The ultralight area is located on the south most side of the grounds and features aircraft that fit ultralight requirements. There are shops and displays to educate the public about this branch of aviation. This area also features a grass runway for the ultralights to use.

The vintage area features a bunch of vintage airplaces, both original and reproductions. This area really lets you explore the history of aviation.

The home built area may perhaps best show EAA’s mission, getting people into aviation and experimental aviation. This features examples of airplanes both scratch and kit built as well as product booths and hands-on workshops.

The warbirds area features warbirds from many time periods, mainly from WWII and conflicts during the Cold War. Here you can also find a mockup WWII came site.

Exhibition Hangars

There are 4 main hangars and a bunch of smaller tents where different manufactures and agencies have exhibits. Some agencies include NOAA, US Customs, and FAA. Some companies always present are Bose, Epic Aircraft, Sporty’s Pilot Shop, and Ford.

Air Shows

Each day of the show Monday-Sunday has an air show in the afternoon and Wednesday and Saturday both have an extra night air show. All these airshows include world class performers that put on dazzling displays of flight. All the action is visible from along the main runway and on the couple of jumbotrons. Some performers this year include Sean D. Tucker, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Canadian Snowbirds, GoPro Bomb Squad, and AreoSHow, just to name a few. The full lineup is available on EAA’s Site. The night airshows are also accompanied by fireworks and the famous Great Wall of Fire.IMG_4531
