As relations between Cuba and the US ameliorate, many US based companies are using the opportunity to make their product accessible in the destitute territory.

Netflix, a web-based on-demand content provider [US] has made its service an option among the Cubans. Although this is a great milestone in US foreign relationships, the result of the decision made by Netflix may have both positive and negative results.
Pros | Cons | |
---|---|---|
The change of availability of Netflix service in Cuba symbolizes better relations and a wider field of internet access to Cuba's citizens. | The Netflix service, priced as $7.99 a month, is nearly 1/3 of the country's average monthly income. | |
Cuban movie makers will be placed in the spotlight, allowing the Cuban economy to improve and impress. | Only 5% of the Cuban population has access to a static broadband network connection, therefore Netflix will not gain much profit. |
We hope to see Cuba taking another step into the modern 21st century, and making more and more resources available to its citizens.
