A Day at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

For just one week every year,  Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin opens its doors to over 10,000 aircraft and 500,000 visitors for “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration”. Put on by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), AirVenture is a must for all aviation enthusiasts. This year, as every year, we made our way down to Oshkosh on Saturday, July 29th to check out day 6 of the air show.

If you wish to only browse through our photo galleries, one is placed following each section.

The Morning – Airport Grounds and Booths

Our team arrived at Wittman Regional Airport at approximately 10:30am, got our tickets, and headed over to the ultralights for some initial impressions.

We had around 4  hours to tour the grounds before the first show – which meant we couldn’t go everywhere we had wanted to. After taking some shots at the ultralight field, we took a nice walk on  Wittman Dr & Rd filled with hundreds of General Aviation, specifically Vintage aircraft, from around the world.

After our walk by the vintage aircraft, we turned onto Vern Ave, Knapp St, and then Celebration Way to explore some of the interesting displays put on year after year. We were sure to check out GA companies, such as Diamond Aircraft, Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, Mooney,  and others, to take a look (or even take a seat) inside of their latest aircraft.

The Afternoon Air Show was coming up, and we didn’t want to be late. Walking down to the “stage”, or runway 18/36, we passed by Boeing Plaza – where all the feature aircraft of the year stand:

  • Rockwell B-1 Lancer
  • Boeing B-52 Stratofortress
  • Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker
  • Boeing P-8 Poseidon
  • Boeing B-29 Superfortress “Doc” & “Fifi”
  • General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon
  • McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle
  • Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor
  • BlueOrigin Reusable Rocket

After our mini-tour of Boeing Plaza, it was time for the Afternoon Air Show. But before we continue to that, here are our highlight photos of AirVenture grounds and Boeing Plaza:

The Evening

After the Afternoon Air Show, we had some time to spare before the evening show. Our team made its way up north to spend some time among the warbirds. These include restored aircraft from past wars as well as replicas. On the way there, we passed a few additional booths – as well as vintage aircraft.
