Following the introduction of Norwegian Airlines’s entry into the transatlantic market earlier this summer (Article: Norwegian 737MAX 8s Route Schedules), Primera Air has announced their plans for low cost transatlantic flights. The Icelandic owned leisure airline announced plans to open new European bases in London (Stansted, STN), Paris (Charles de Gaulle, CDG) and Birmingham (BHX) to serve US destinations New York (Newark, EWR) and Boston Logan (BOS) with first flights starting April 2018. They will operate daily flights to New York and 3/4 weekly flights to Boston from the three European cities (A detailed rundown of the flights is on the bottom of the article) Also stated was that two additional destinations will still be announced.

The airline will use brand new Airbus A321neo aircraft that the airline has on order. They will be configured with Economy and Premium Economy seats and offer the following services in each fare class:

Additionally all passengers on the aircraft will have access to USB charging ports and paid WiFi (premium economy passengers will also have access to electric ports). Infographic from Primera Air: 

This is now the second offering of a big single-aisle transatlantic operation in a short period of time. Primera Air, like Norwegian, is using a model that includes a bare fare and allows passengers to either buy separate fare classes or add on fees to have a better experience. Once Primera Air enters these new routes into service this upcoming spring, it will be important to watch the schedules to see how well these new low cost routes can perform in the long run.
