American Airlines Makes IFE Free

American Airlines has announced today that all its inflight entertainment is now free to all customers no matter where they sit in the plane. If you are seated in First, Business, or Economy, you will be able to enjoy American’s full movie library free of charge. This includes all new releases and premium content. All this can be accessed on the in-seat monitors or thru WiFi on the American Airlines app on airplanes with no in-seat monitors installed.

American’s current media library includes:

  • 160+ movies including nearly 50 new releases
  • 300 TV shows
  • 700+ music selections
  • 20 games

On select planes there is also live streaming of Sport24, BBC World, CNBC and CNN broadcasts.

In addition to these streaming options, American Airlines planes with overhead screens will show “full episodes of hit NBCUniversal shows and clips of other popular segments during your flight.”

Though streaming is now free for all, First and Business passengers still get some perks:

It is nice to see another airline from America joining Delta in offering free inflight entertainment for all their passengers.
