On Saturday July 16th, we went to see some of the aircraft part of the Commemorative Air Force AirPower Tour on a stop in Aurora, IL. The Commemorative Air Force’s mission is to preserve these old military aircraft and bring them out for the public to see. All the money to keep these aircraft running comes from the tour stops so it is great to see so many people at the airport interested in what was going on.
The aircraft present were B-29 Superfortress “FIFI”, a P-51 Mustang, C-45 “Bucket of Bolts”, a Helldiver, and a Boeing Stearman. These aircraft were produced many decades ago, but the CAF has done an amazing job restoring and keeping these airplanes in tip-top condition. Anyone at the event could get up close to the airplanes or even purchase a ride in one of them.
This is a great experience for anyone interested in aviation, especially of the World War II era. This also was a nice preview of EAA AirVenture 2016 in just over a week, which features 10,000 aircraft from all eras.
Below are some pictures we took along with some of the FandaGearLive coverage we had of the event.
